Weekend Writing: Literary Holiday Greeting Cards

It's officially December, which means it's time for us to celebrate the holidays. Whether you're celebrating Hanukkah, Christmas, or Kwanzaa, the next few weeks are one of the busiest times of the year. We attend holiday parties, exchange presents, decorate the house, participate in family traditions, and, of course, send holiday greeting cards.

Because I'm an avid literature fan, I will always encourage you to use literary quotes in whichever way possible. This includes adding literary quotes to your holiday greeting cards. You may be surprised that some of the best writings are about the winter season and the holidays.

Just in case you need some inspiration for your holiday greeting cards, this blog post provides a few templates and examples for you to consider. Your cards don't have to be perfect; it's the thought that counts. A holiday greeting card is a surprise gift in the mail. Your family and friends will appreciate it, no matter what.

"I will honor Christmas in my heart and try to keep it all the year." - Charles Dickens, "A Christmas Carol"

"The rooms were very still while the pages were softly turned and the winter sunshine crept in to touch the bright heads and serious faces with a Christmas greeting." - Louisa May Alcott, Little Women

"There are two ways of spreading light; to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it." - Edith Wharton, "Vesalius in Zante"

"Our hearts grow tender with childhood memories and love of kindred, and we are better throughout the year for having, in spirit, become a child again at Christmas-time." - Laura Ingalls Wilder, "Little House on the Prairie"

"Christmas will always be as long as we stand heart to heart and hand in hand." - Dr. Seuss

---

Hopefully, you'll have fun spreading holiday cheer with these greeting cards, or whichever ones you want to use. Remember that this holiday season is the time for families to come together, celebrate and be with each other in the most joyous time of the year. Have fun and have a blessed season.

Happy holidays!
