Weekend Writing: Gift Guide for Bookworms

The 2018 holiday season is quickly approaching. It doesn't seem possible that it's that time of the year again, but here we are. It's time to celebrate the holidays with family and friends, and during the next few weeks, you will be busy buying gifts.

Last year, I provided a gift guide for writers. Hopefully, you found it helpful as you bought gifts for the beloved, creative writers in your life. This year, however, I'm focusing on bookworms--the avid readers in your life. I encourage you to consider the following gifts. If your friends/family members are anything like me, they will love these literary gifts.

1. Custom Bookplate Stamp, $35.55

If your bookworm happens to lend out his/her books to fellow readers, buy them this custom Ex Libris bookplate stamp. Found on Etsy, you can order it customized to your friend's name and initials. Then, they can officially leave a scholarly mark on their book collection so everyone knows the book belongs to him/her.

Even if your friend doesn't allow friends to borrow books, this gift will give your reader a fun project--stamping all of his/her books.

2. Literary Coffee Mugs, $16

Is there anything better than curling up with your favorite book and sipping coffee? Well, now your bookworm can warm up with literary coffee mugs with their favorite author. These charming stoneware mugs are covered in quotes and phrases from iconic writers. It's like you're drinking your favorite novel. From UncommonGoods, there are four options: Jane Austen, the Bronte Sisters, Lewis Carroll, and Edgar Allan Poe.

If you know your friend's favorite author and literary preference, these mugs will be the perfect literary companion.

3. The Little Library Cookbook, $22

Sometimes, you could be reading a book and there's a dinner scene. The food is described so well that you want to try it yourself. Well, bookworms can now thank Kate Young, who in 2017 released The Little Library Cookbook, a cookbook containing over 100 literary-themed recipes found in some of your most favorite novels.

If your bookworm loves to cook and is hungry for comfort reading--the combination of comfort food and comfort reading--this is the best gift you can buy this holiday season. Plus, this is a gift for you, too. You'll just have to try the food in the cookbook.

4. Bookmarks, $4.80

Every bookworm needs gorgeous bookmarks. Why would you fold over the pages when you can simply insert a bookmark to keep your place? On Etsy, this set of six unique bookmarks are beautiful enough as they are. But they also feature quotes by classic poets, including William Wordsworth, Lord Byron, John Keats, and more.

Bookmarks are essential tools for every bookworm. You can never have too many. Plus, if they're as beautiful as this set, your friend will want them all.

5. Scratch-Off Poster, $15

This is one of the most popular gift ideas for literary fans in 2018. I've seen this poster listed on multiple gift guides, so I figured I should include it in my own list. If your bookworm loves to read and wants a challenge, UncommonGood's scratch-off poster is the perfect gift this holiday season. This poster features 100 iconic books every bookworm should read at least once in his/her lifetime. But here's the fun part: you don't see the cover until you scratch it off. Once you have finished reading the book, you can scratch it off your list.

This is a fun challenge. Your literary friend will want to make sure every book is scratched off, or he/she won't be satisfied. He/she will be determined to read all one-hundred books. Challenge accepted!

Personally, if someone were to give me these gifts, I would love them. I wouldn't feature a product on my blog that I wouldn't enjoy. So, the bookworm in your life will love these gifts, too. Trust me on this.

Have fun shopping for the perfect literary-themed gifts for your favorite reader. Keep in mind that your friend or family member will love the gift no matter what, because it's coming from you. You thought of them and care about their interests.

That's the best gift of all.
