My First Week

My eyes hurt as I type this blog post, but I thought I would provide a few words on my first week as an intern at the Lucy-Desi Museum & Center for Comedy, and the National Comedy Center in Jamestown, NY. It was definitely a whirlwind of a week as I met the other interns, staff members at the museum and became familiar to the work.

As an event planning and marketing intern, my job revolves around the promotion for the museum, as well as the annual Lucille Ball Comedy Festival in August. On Thursday, I had the opportunity to sit in on a conference call with a PR firm in NYC and I learned about the ins-and-outs of PR. There is so much involved in communications--definitely more than you think!

After the conference call, I joined my fellow interns at a small business expo in Jamestown, where we had a table and promoted the museum, as well as the comedy festival. It was an enjoyable opportunity to further promote the work our museum does.

Today concluded my first week of work. I sat down with my supervisor, and he showed us how to edit the National Comedy Center's website. This included how to use Photoshop, how to edit video content and how to use social media for the museum. This was a tutorial session, and it was really great to learn about these different aspects of communications. Each company has a different system for communications, so it was interesting to see how the museum operates its website.

To celebrate the end of my first week, I watched CBS's special of "I Love Lucy: Superstar Special." The special featured the classic "Lucy Visits Grauman's" and "Lucy and John Wayne." It was really interesting and cool to see the episodes in color. I enjoyed the episodes because I am actively involved in "Lucy Land" this summer in Jamestown. It was the perfect way to conclude my first week of work!
